The fifth Penrith Triathlon is a BTF (British Triathlon Federation) registered sprint event, taking place on Bank Holiday Sunday 26 August 2012. The event is staged on the edge of the Lake District and is organised between Eden District Council, Arragon's Cumbrian Tri Club and other valued helpers.
The event will utilise chip timing, secure and numbered transition on an astro turf pitch with the route being comprehensively signed and marshaled at all corners and junctions.
As event organisers we aim to make the event the best it can possibly be with participant enjoyment the most important factor. On completion of the course, each participant will receive a technical t-shirt and food. There will also be prizes/trophies for the men's, women's, team and veteran's categories.
The first triathlon was billed as a beginner's event, although last year's triathlon had 240 competitors ranging from novices to some high class athletes with some extremely quick times. The course (particularly the undulating bike!) provides a challenge to all levels of athlete.
Distances:
400m pool swim, started in waves
22km bike loop on open roads
5km run on adjacent fields
Team relay option also available.
